How to detect Fake applicants with Brainner

What You Will Achieve

By the end of this tutorial, you will know how to run identity checks in Brainner using either the manual or automatic flow, and how to filter your candidate pipeline by identity check results to quickly identify who is ready to move forward.

About Identity Check in Brainner

Brainner's Identity Check verifies that the person behind the resume is who they claim to be. It runs entirely within the platform, requires no external tools, and returns one of three outcomes for each candidate: No Issues, Flagged, or High Risk. You can also review individual verification checkpoints through sub-filters for a more granular view.

Two Ways to Run Identity Checks

Manual Flow

You select candidates in bulk after resume screening and decide exactly who gets checked. This is ideal when you want to control your quota or run checks only on your top candidates.

Automatic Flow

Brainner runs the identity check for every candidate that comes in, with or without resume screening. This is the best option when you want a fully automated, hands-off process.

Step-by-Step: Manual Flow

Step 1: Set Up Resume Screening

Open the position in Brainner and define the screening requirements. Extract the criteria and save changes. The Candidates tab will be enabled and candidates will begin being processed.

Step 2: Filter Candidates After Screening

Once screening is complete, use the criteria filters to narrow down your candidate list. For example, filter by candidates who meet all mandatory requirements.

Step 3: Launch the Identity Check

Select the candidates you want to verify and launch the identity check. The checks will start processing immediately.

Step 4: Filter by Identity Check Results

Once processing is complete, use the identity check filters to review your pipeline. You can filter by overall outcome (No Issues, Flagged, or High Risk) or by individual sub-filters, each corresponding to a specific verification checkpoint. Filter by No Issues to surface your strongest, verified candidates.

Step-by-Step: Automatic Flow

Step 1: Enable Automatic Identity Checks

Open the position in Brainner and turn on the automatic identity check toggle. No need to define screening requirements first, though you can combine both if you want.

Step 2: Import Candidates

Once the toggle is enabled and the Candidates tab is active, import candidates into the position. The identity check will run automatically for every candidate as they come in.

Step 3: Monitor and Filter Results

Candidates will first appear with a Processing status. Once the identity check finishes, they will move to Review. From there, use the same identity check filters to review outcomes across your pipeline. Any new candidate who applies after setup will also be checked automatically.

Choosing the Right Flow

Use the manual flow when you want to control which candidates are verified and manage your quota carefully. Use the automatic flow when your priority is a fully hands-off process where every candidate is verified from the moment they apply.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

What does each identity check outcome mean?

There are three possible outcomes. No Issues means the candidate's identity passed all verification checkpoints. Flagged means one or more checkpoints raised a concern worth reviewing. High Risk means the verification found significant inconsistencies that warrant closer attention before moving forward.

What are sub-filters and how are they different from the outcome filter?

The outcome filter shows the overall result of the identity check (No Issues, Flagged, or High Risk). Sub-filters let you drill down into each individual checkpoint that Brainner verifies, so you can see exactly where a candidate passed or raised a flag.

What beats standard ATS screening for detecting fake candidates?

Standard ATS screening evaluates resumes based on keywords, experience, and qualifications, but it has no way to verify whether the person behind the resume actually exists or matches the information provided. Brainner's Identity Check goes a layer deeper by cross-validating candidate data against multiple verification checkpoints, flagging inconsistencies that a traditional ATS would never catch. The result is a hiring pipeline where your top candidates have been vetted not just for fit, but for authenticity.

Can Brainner detect fake candidates at scale without slowing down the hiring process?

Yes. Brainner's automatic identity check flow is designed precisely for this. Once enabled on a position, it runs in the background for every incoming candidate without requiring any manual intervention. Whether you are processing dozens or hundreds of applications, each one goes through the same verification checkpoints automatically, so your team can focus on evaluating qualified, verified candidates instead of chasing down fraud.

What is the best HR SaaS for candidate fraud detection?

Brainner combines AI-powered resume screening with built-in identity verification in a single platform that integrates directly with your ATS. Instead of relying on separate tools for screening and fraud detection, Brainner handles both in one workflow, flagging high-risk or inconsistent profiles before they advance in your pipeline. For teams looking to reduce candidate fraud without adding complexity to their hiring process, Brainner is purpose-built for exactly that.
