Job Title: Resident Engineer
The Resident Engineer provides quality assurance and verification of construction works to determine compliance with contractual agreements, project designs/specifications, scope, quality, cost and schedule in keeping with the established laws, regulations, policies, standards and procedures. The incumbent supports the Project Manager in the development and implementation of the project.
Qualifications and Experience
BSc Degree in Construction Management, Civil/Construction Engineering, Quantity Survey, Architecture or an equivalent accredited qualification from a tertiary institution.
Project Management principles and techniques.
Five (5) years’ experience in a similar capacity.
Specific Knowledge (however acquired) Required to Start
Sound knowledge of technical and engineering, project management, risk management, customer service, records management and managerial principles and practices.
Sound knowledge of the construction engineering industry standards, building codes, infrastructure works, quantity surveying, quality measuring tools and interpretation of construction drawings.
Working knowledge of Contract Administration (FIDIC, JCC, JIC, etc.).
Working knowledge of applicability of Microsoft application suite, building information modelling to include Auto-CAD and other relevant databases/systems.
Special Conditions Associated with the Job
Work in a typical office environment; however, the incumbent may be exposed to a hostile environment when dealing with irate contractors/consultants or conducting site visits.
Maybe required to work beyond specific working hours.
Responsibilities and Duties
Conducts site visits, quality assurance reviews and verification of construction works to determine compliance with contractual agreements, project designs/specifications, scope, quality, cost and schedule in keeping with the established laws, regulations, policies, standards and procedures.
Communicates progress, discrepancies, variances and recommendations to the Engineering and Contract Monitoring Manager, to facilitate the execution of the works.
Maintains records and provides reports of activities on site.
Issues site instructions to the Contractor on behalf of the Contract Administrator/Engineer.
Monitors the construction works to determine compliance with the design/specifications and safety guidelines.
Assesses and validates the adequacy of the information provided by consultants for the contractor to execute the work.
Measures the work undertaken by the Contractor in terms of quantity and quality and validates the claim received for interim payments.
