1. JOB PURPOSE
To carry out all related Customs duties and responsibilities necessary for clearance and export of all cargo goods and services for and on behalf of the Bermudez Group of Companies.
2.1 Clear and export cargo at all ports of entry
2.2 Take deliveries from Shipping agents
2.3 Obtain approvals for Customs entries at Customs House
2.4 Prepare cheque requisitions related to import including demurrage and haulage
2.5 Prepare and sign customs documents for import and export of cargo
3.1 Double check entries/shipping bills for accuracy prior to prior to clearance/export or processing at Customs House
3.2 Ensure there are no “holds” on containers to be cleared or deliveries to be taken such as demurrage hold in NAVIS and “no freight release” from shipping agents.
3.3 Ensure all entries come off the port as scheduled using NAVIS and communicating with haulers.
3.4 Double check all entries for arrival dates and obtain rent payment if needed or demurrage extension prior to going to the ports for clearance.
3.5 Ensure OPCOs are informed of all clearances via text, phone call the day before clearance or on the day of clearance prior to delivery to the warehouse
3.6 Input AU Customs entry data into OPCO delivery book for collection by OPCO’s representative.
3.7 Follow up with OPCOs to assist with demurrage management
3.8 Immediately raise issues which can cause delays in clearance at the ports or processing at Customs House.
3.9 Ensure all shipping agents sign for receiving cheques or immediately collect relevant receipts and attach to cheque stub.
3.10 Deliver all receipts and or change to the P/C custodian 1 day after cash is taken to perform relevant duties.
3.11 Indicate on original storage rent receipts; supplier, invoice number, commodity and on photocopy of the receipt indicate reason/s for rent. Photocopy all rent receipts whether paid for by cash, cheque or credit and give to the Customs Clerk responsible for preparing docs for that particular OPCO.
3.12 Present cheque payments to Comptroller of Customs and Excise including preparation of relevant payment vouchers.
3.13 Double check all haulage and demurrage invoices prior to submission for payment
3.14 Check files for bills of lading and arrival notices that require deliveries
3.15 Input clearance date in import log books by the day after clearance
3.16 Perform any other duties assigned by the Senior Customs Clerk/Shipping Manager
KEY RELATIONSHIPS
3.17 Reports to Senior Customs Clerk.
3.18 Liaises with Customs and OGAs, Carriers/Freight Forwarders, Truckers.
3.19 Liaises with internal customers at OPCOs.
4. KEY AUTHORITIES
4.1 Authorized to collect, keep and disburse money on the Company’s behalf.
4.2 Authorized to prepare cheque payments.
4.3 Authorized to use department’s assigned vehicle.
5. KEY REPORTS
5.1 Demurrage Report
5.2 Charlette and Gatcliffe monthly insurance premiums for exports
5.3 Haulage payments
6. PERFORMANCE PARAMETERS
6.1 Timely clearance of cargo and retrieval of entries
6.2 Consistent and timely communication to OPCOs regarding cargo to be cleared
6.3 Accurate and timely inputting of data into NAVIS for delivery of containers from the port
6.4 Accurate and immediate communication of issues affecting entry processing and clearance.
7. PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS
· Holder of a Customs Clerk license
· At least 2 years Customs experience.
· Knowledge of ACE, ASYCUDA World, TTBIZLINK, NAVIS
8. REQUIREMENTS/ SKILLS
· Good communication and interpersonal skills
· Ability to work in a fast paced environment and able to follow established procedures
· Computer Literate
· Accuracy and attention to detail.
· Well organized and able to meet deadlines
