 LOGISTICS SUPERVISOR

 We are part of the Food Manufacturing sector and serve our Regional, North American and European markets. 

 OUR NEED

We are seeking a Logistics Supervisor to provide leadership guidance and support for the day-to-day execution and continuous improvement of import, export, customs-clearance, transportation, and delivery activities. The role supervises logistics personnel, allocates work, maintains regulatory and financial controls, monitors service and cost performance, and ensures timely communication of shipment risks and delivery status to internal customers and management.

 KEY DUTIES

Included among the duties and responsibilities are: -

  • Supervise the logistics team, including documentation and clearing personnel, by allocating work, confirming coverage, setting expectations, monitoring attendance and performance, coaching employees, addressing non-compliance, and escalating disciplinary matters in accordance with Company policy.

  • Identify training and development opportunities to improve team skills and ensure compliance to regulatory requirements and achievement of Key Performance Indicators.

  • Prepare work schedules, monitor workload and performance, maintain adequate operational coverage, and resolve or escalate staffing and service issues promptly.

  • Plan and coordinate the collection, transportation, and hand-off of import and export cargo, ensuring that bookings, documents, equipment, carriers, delivery windows, and customer requirements are confirmed and that exceptions are escalated promptly.

  • Obtain and evaluate quotations from approved carriers and logistics providers and negotiate rates and service terms within delegated authority, balancing cost, reliability, transit time, capacity, and compliance requirements. Monitor the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of transportation methods and make recommendations for improvements.

  • Prepare, review, or authorize customs entries within the limits of the employee’s customs credentials and delegated authority, and ensure that classifications, values, duties, supporting documents, and approvals are accurate before submission.

  • Ensure compliance with customs, freight-forwarding, import, export, records-retention, and other applicable regulatory requirements by maintaining complete supporting documents, monitoring deadlines and approvals, and escalating potential breaches immediately. Ensure all applications for Export Approvals, Suspensions and License's are made in a timely manner.  Maintain end-to-end visibility of outstanding import and export shipments, monitor milestones and free-time expiry, identify risks to clearance or delivery, implement recovery actions, and communicate delays, cost exposure, and revised timelines promptly to the Logistics Manager and affected operating companies. Identify opportunities to streamline logistics processes, reduce costs, and improve delivery times.

  • Track and analyse agreed logistics KPIs, investigate adverse trends and service failures, recommend corrective actions, assign follow-up owners, and escalate unresolved issues to the Logistics Manager within agreed timelines.

  • ·Prepare accurate and timely management reports covering shipment status, customs clearance, freight expenditure, rent and demurrage, service performance, compliance exceptions, root causes, and recommended actions.

DESIRED BACKGROUND/SKILLS

The incumbent should possess:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or an Advanced Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Customs Administration, or a related discipline is required.

  • A minimum of three (3) years Supervisory experience and has a recognised customs-clerk qualification or licence and relevant logistics or supply chain certification are preferred or required where applicable to the duties assigned.

  • At least three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in customs clearance, import and export documentation, freight forwarding, transportation, or logistics operations, including at least two years of hands-on customs experience.

  • Working proficiency in ACE, ASYCUDA World, TTBizLink, and NAVIS, including the ability to prepare or review relevant transactions, retrieve status information, maintain records, and troubleshoot routine processing issues.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and able to follow established procedures

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and able to maintain shipment trackers, analyse logistics KPIs and cost data, identify trends and exceptions, and prepare clear management reports.
